Spirulina powder may produce anticancer effects due to its antioxidant and immune enhancing properties. Another way that spirulina may help to fight cancer is by promoting the release of tumor necrosis factor alpha, a chemical in the body that attacks tumor cells.

Benefit Of Spirulina

Spirulina helps the body to detox in a natural way and eventually will rid the body of toxic poisons. It helps the body with mineral absorption and helps reduce cholesterol. Apparently spirulina has the ability to stimulate the immune system which could be beneficial in some individuals, and potentially harmful in those who already have an overactive immune system or an autoimmune condition. Therefore, spirulina is not advised to be taken regularly for those who have lupus, autoimmune thyroiditis, pemphigus vulgaris, and other such conditions.

Iron is essential to build a strong system, yet is the most common mineral deficiency. Spirulina is rich in iron, magnesium and trace minerals, and is easier to absorb than iron supplements. Spirulina or its extracts can prevent or inhibit cancers in humans and animals. Some common forms of cancer are thought to be a result of damaged cell DNA running amok, causing uncontrolled cell growth. Cellular biologists have defined a system of special enzymes called endonuclease which repair damaged DNA to keep cells alive and health. When these enzymes are deactivated by radiation or toxins, errors in DNA go un repaired, and cancer may develop.

Yes. Thank you. I purchased some Hawaiian Spirulina approx. 2 years ago. Is the Algae, etc., still active? How can one tell? I have started ingesting it and am curious about the aforementioned. Thanks again, Linda

I would say throw it out. The bottle should have an expiration date on it that you could refer to if the bottle is unopened;  once the bottle of spirulina is opened it should be kept refrigerated. If the bottle has been sitting opened in a medicine cabinet for the past 2 years, you should probably toss it and buy some more.
